In memory of...

Rudi Koch

1933 - 2021

Rudolf Horst Koch, born May 9th, 1933 in Bodenheim, Germany, died March 12th, 2021, at CHSLD Foyer Sutton, Québec, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Rudi leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years Hildegard, his children Mathias (Carolyn), Christoph and Regina, his grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremy, Julie, Sarah (Julien), Emily, Katherine (Hunter) and Hannah.

Rudi lived a full life, punctuated with adventure: he moved his family from Germany to Beaconsfield, Québec, Canada in 1977, to begin a new chapter. Here, he managed a successful engineering company and continued to share his love of sailing with his family. He eventually joined the Newfoundland Flotilla in 1997, sailed with his grandson Matthew from New York to Lake Champlain in 1999, and from Lake Michigan to Lake Ontario with his son Matt and granddaughter Katie in 2011. He was most comfortable at the family home in Mansonville, which they bought in the 80’s and completely renovated themselves, as a labor of love. Rudi was happiest with Hildegard by his side, and surrounded by his children and grandchildren either around the kitchen table, in the sun room or hiking and working around the property. We will miss his sense of humour, love of a little mischief and the example he set for all of us to follow.

The family would like to thank the team at CHSLD Foyer Sutton for their compassion in caring for Rudi.

In his memory, donation to the Alzheimer Society (740, rue Galt Ouest, bur.112, Sherbrooke, Qc J1H 1Z3) would be appreciated by the family.
