Michael Darney

C'est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Michael Darney, survenu le 11 avril, chez lui, à Sugar Loaf Pond, entouré de son épouse bien-aimée, Diane.

Michael était profondément aimé et manquera beaucoup à son épouse, Diane Bishop ; à ses beaux-enfants : Kim Gillis (Pete Thompson), Kelly Gillis (Alan Stewart) et Jack Gillis; à ses petits-enfants chéris : Jessica, Leah, Emily (Louell), Owen, Elizabeth, Aiyumi et Miana. Il laisse également dans le deuil ses sœurs : Jean Smyth et Kathleen Clark; ses cousins ​​Campbell et ses nombreux neveux et nièces.

Originaire d'Écosse, Michael est arrivé à Montréal en 1954, porteur d'un profond sentiment de fierté pour son héritage écossais qui l'a perduré toute sa vie. Il s'est enrôlé dans le Black Watch et a ensuite été instructeur de cadets. Joueur de cornemuse talentueux, il est devenu affectueusement connu sous le nom de « Potton Piper », apportant de la joie à d'innombrables événements communautaires et ravissant ses voisins avec des performances impromptues depuis le quai de Sugar Loaf Pond.

Michael et Diane partageaient une passion pour les Cantons-de-l'Est, où ils ont pris leur retraite il y a 25 ans dans leur chère maison au bord de l'étang. Ensemble, ils appréciaient les promenades paisibles en forêt et les grands rassemblements familiaux. On se souviendra toujours de Michael pour ses discours éloquents et inspirants, et plus particulièrement pour ses toasts sincères qui nous ont fait sentir aimés et reconnaissants.

La famille tient à exprimer sa gratitude à l'incroyable équipe du CLSC de Magog pour ses soins palliatifs et son soutien à domicile empreints de compassion.

Une messe funéraire aura lieu à Mansonville. Une célébration de la vie suivra à la maison familiale au bord de l'étang Sugar Loaf. La date et l'heure seront communiquées à une date ultérieure.

In Loving Memory of Michael Darney

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Darney on April 11, at home on Sugar Loaf Pond, with his beloved wife Diane by his side.

Michael was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his wife, Diane Bishop; his stepchildren Kim Gillis (Pete Thompson), Kelly Gillis (Alan Stewart) and Jack Gillis; and his cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Leah, Emily (Louell), Owen, Elizabeth, Aiyumi and Miana. He is also mourned by his sisters, Jean Smyth and Kathleen Clark, the Campbell cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Originally from Scotland, Michael arrived in Montreal in 1954, carrying with him a strong sense of pride in his Scottish heritage that would continue throughout his life. He joined the Black Watch and later served as a cadet instructor. A talented bagpiper, he became fondly known as the "Potton Piper", bringing joy to countless community events and delighting neighbours with impromptu performances from the dock on Sugar Loaf Pond.

Michael and Diane shared a passion for the Eastern Townships, where they retired 25 years ago to their cherished home on the Pond. Together, they enjoyed peaceful walks in the woods and hosting large family gatherings. Michael will always be remembered for his eloquent and inspiring speeches, especially his heartfelt toasts that made us feel loved and appreciative.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the incredible team at the CLSC in Magog for their compassionate palliative care and support at home.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Mansonville, Quebec. A celebration of life will follow at the family home on Sugar Loaf Pond. Date and time will be shared once confirmed.
