My deepest sympathies to the whole family. My first meeting with Sweet Pea was 30 years ago when he did renovations to my home. My kids Blake and Brooke were so young. I remember Blake used to ask me to put his lunch into a lunch box and he would hop into Sweet Pea’s truck and eat his lunch with Pea. Sweet Pea told me I should bring the kids to visit his sister, Patricia. She had a pig, Charlotte, that the kids would love. That’s when my amazing friendship with Pat began. Thank you so much Pea…we’re all going to miss you.

The first and only time I met Sweet Pea was somewhere between Sutton and Glen Sutton when the car I was in slid into the ditch on a winter evening. My friends and I couldn't get the car out and neither could the people in the next two cars that stopped to help. Finally, a third car stopped. I asked if they had Traxion, the spiked pieces of metal sold to be placed under the tires in such circumstances. "I use Labatt 50 for traction" was Sweet Pea's reply! He did manage to help us out of the ditch and it turned out that we were all heading for the Glen Sutton Inn, where we enjoyed a few drinks together. A few weeks later, I was reading about Sweet Pea in The New Yorker, courtesy of Mordecai Richler...
