Norman de St-Croix

1941 - 2019

Exposition

When : Saturday 20 July 2019 14:00

Where : 118 rue Larouche, Cowansville

On Friday, May 31, 2019, at the age of 78 years Norman passed away peacefully with his partner Andrée Taylor by his side. He is predeceased by his mother Susan, father Kenneth and brother Bob. He is survived by his partner Andrée, sons Frederick (Rosalind), Douglas, brothers Ross (Mary), Larry (Sandra), sister Debra (Douglas) and many grandchildren.

Norm was a man who lived a life that was full. He was a dad, a grandpa, a partner, a boy scout, a boss, a buddy and a friend to so many. Norman Howard de St. Croix began his life in Verdun on April 1, 1941. His final years were spent in Cowansville, QC renovating his home on the lake with his loving partner Andrée. Frequent travels west connected him with his 2 sons and grandchildren.

He kept busy building a jolly boat in his workshop and his kitchen was regularly filled with the smells of his fresh baked bread and home cooked meals. He enjoyed running his overhead conveyor business and spending time out for camaraderie with friends and family. Norman will be remembered for his generosity, love of life, humour and kindness to others. For the ones he left behind they could not afford an obituary long enough to contain his full story. Although Norm passed on May 31, 2019 at the age of 78 years, he will live on and be remembered in the stories of those who knew him.

The family would like to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude the staff at the CLSC Home Care Services, Cowansville, for their support. Also special thanks to staff at the BMP Hospital in Cowansville for their assistance in helping Norman cope with an unrelenting brain tumour (glioblastoma) which eventually took his life. Cremation has taken place.  Family invites you to the Celebration of Norman's life on Saturday July 20th from 2pm to 5pm at his residence 118 Larouche St in Cowansville.

Back in the sixties Norman was a manager at the Canadian Youth Hostels office in Montreal. Immigrants from Europe especially the UK tended to call in there soon after they arrived in Canada. Emigrating is a big step for any young person even in wonderfully hospitable Canada and although it is a great adventure, many newcomers are somewhat stressed and struggling to fit in. Norman with his special friend Molson took great pleasure in adopting new arrivals and I am sure I was just one of the many he introduced to the expansive lifestyle of Canada after the restricted life in the UK at the time. Even though I eventually returned to UK, much of Norman’s attitude has remained with me. Thanks Norman.
