The day after Christmas in 1959 Bob saw a young boy walking home with a stick looking dejected. He asked the lad what had happened. The boy told him that his hockey stick had broken. Bob figured out that no replacement stick would be coming to that child because he was from a large family that wouldn't be able to afford another hockey stick. He took the boy's hand in his own and led him to a store where he purchased a brand new stick and some tape. He carefully taped the stick and handed it to the child. That was my husband's first encounter with Bob. My husband, Robert McKell, ran into Bob numerous times over the years, but that remains his fondest memory of Bob. That shows the true character of Bob Sharples
