Shirley Jean Hoskin passed away peacefully at the Brome-Missisquoi-Perkins Hospital in Cowansville on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the age of 89.
Shirley was born on May 18, 1928, in Howick, the youngest child of Janet Lang and Albert Brown. Shirley graduated from Macdonald College in 1946 and began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Delson. In 1948, she came to Farnham to teach for four years. She returned to the Chateauguay Valley where she taught in Valleyfield for an additional five years.
On September 14, 1957, Shirley married Allan Hoskin of Farnham. They enjoyed more than 56 years of marriage together and raised three children.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was most content spending time with those she loved and enjoyed welcoming family and friends into her home. Shirley had a keen interest in family history, loved gardening, and was an active member of her church community. During their retirement years, she and Allan enjoyed many trips with friends. Square dancing with the Brome Squares was also a hobby they shared.
As her health declined, Shirley made a point of staying in touch with family and friends by phone. She was always interested in what was happening in people’s lives and held a special place in the hearts of those who knew her.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Allan, and her four brothers, Alymer, Clifford, Wilbert and Walter.
She will be greatly missed by her three children, Janet (Robb Blunt), Glenn (Isabel Igreja), and John (Donna Land), as well as her six grandchildren, Jonathan (Stephanie Garas), Caleb, Melissa, Andrew, Peter, and Jordan, her sister-in-laws, Laura and Barbara, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The visitation will take place at the
Désourdy Funeral Home
