The essential steps to planning a funeral
When a death occurs, such as the loss of a loved one, it is normal to feel overwhelmed by the numerous steps you need to take to plan for the funeral. That is why the counsellors at Désourdy Funeral Homes provide all the expertise you need. They will accompany you throughout the entire process, including:
- Transporting the body to the funeral home
- Meeting the family and loved ones to plan the funeral:
- Determining the funeral rites based on your beliefs and values: final viewing of the body, casket or urn, ceremony in a church, chapel or meaningful site for the deceased, burial at a cemetery or placement in a niche in a columbarium.
- Selecting the coffin or urn as well as other funeral products or services: tombstone, reliquary, pendant, flowers, sympathy cards, bookmark, commemorative DVD, photography services (ex.: touch-ups, enlargements, framing), dove releases, etc.
- Determining the financial support for surviving spouses, children, etc.
- Helping to settle certain legal and administrative formalities:
- Declaring a death with the Directeur de l’état civil, obtaining a certificate and/or a copy of an act of death, declaring the death with different departments and agencies of both the Government of Québec and Canada, etc.
- Repatriating the remains or ashes of a loved one in the case of a death abroad
- Publishing the death notice
- Communicating with the church and cemetery, if required
- Ordering and ensuring the delivery of items, such as thank you cards and bookmarks, picture enlargements and framing, flowers, vigil lights, custom key chains, large format displays, etc.
- Organizing and supervising the ceremony to honour the memory of the deceased
