1946 - 2017
Murray Russell Cornell died peacefully at Fleurimont Hospital on May 19th, 2017 in Sherbrooke, Quebec at the age of 70. He was pre-deceased by his parents Russell and Evelyn Cornell and his brother-in-law Jeffrey Rowles. Murray will be dearly missed by his wife, Madeleine Lukosa; children, Jake and Clayt; siblings, Wendy (Ray) and Gail; brother-in-law Peter (Monique); nephews, Chad (Courtney), Trevor (Miranda), Blair (Mandy) and Eric (Megan) and many other relatives and dear friends. Murray was born on November 2nd, 1946 in Montreal, Quebec to Russell and Evelyn. He obtained degrees from Bishop’s University and the Université de Montréal in history and education. He married Madeleine, a young woman he met at Expo ’67. Murray worked for the Montreal School Board for four years and in 1976 he welcomed the first of his two sons. After moving to the Eastern Townships, Murray began working at Parkview Elementary and then Waterloo Elementary and in 1978 welcomed his second son. He continued in his retirement to MC the Eastern Townships School Board level three math competition and was on the Pettes Library committee. Murray enjoyed four sabbaticals during his career. His intellectual curiosity led him to travel the world and to be a passionate reader. Murray was a very funny, kind and gentle man.
Visitation will be at 15:00 on Saturday, June 3rd at the United Church of Canada Knowlton, 234 Knowlton Road, Lac-Brome, Quebec, followed by a funeral service at 16:00, with a reception to follow. Reverend Steve Lawson will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Murray’s life. Interment will be at a later date.
